When planning your stay at Colonial Williamsburg’s Fort Magruder Hotel and Conference Center, you’ll find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below. If you require further information, please contact us and a member of our staff will be happy to assist you.  

General Information

  • How do I get to the Hotel? Please see our" How to Get Here" page for driving directions, airport, train and other transportation information.
  • What is check in/check out time? Check in time is 4 p.m., check out is 11 a.m. Departures after 11 a.m. are subject to additional charges. We will be happy to accommodate you should your room be ready prior to 4 p.m. but cannot guarantee access to that time. If you expect to arrive early in the day and would like immediate access to your room, we recommend booking the room for the prior night to guarantee immediate access.  
  • Do you offer onsite parking? Yes. Complimentary on-site parking is available for registered guests.
  • Is smoking allowed at the Hotel? In our on-going effort to protect and enhance our indoor air quality and to contribute to the health and well-being of our guests and employees, Fort Magruder Hotel and Conference Center's smoke-free facility policy (which includes "electronic" smoking devices) is strictly enforced. If smoking takes place in a guest room the registered guest will be charged $250 in order to cover the extensive cost of restoring guest rooms to a smoke-free condition. We appreciate your cooperation to help ensure that our guests and employees are not subject to secondhand smoke.
  • How much do you charge for high speed/Wi-Fi Internet access? Complimentary high-speed wired and wireless Internet access is available in guest rooms and wireless Internet access is available in most public areas.
  • Do you have a swimming pool? Our indoor pool, is open to registered guests daily from 6 a.m. - 11p.m. Please note: Lifeguards are not on duty.
  • Do you have a fitness center? What kind of equipment does it have? What are the hours? Yes, Fort Magruder offers a 24-hour fitness facility located on the first floor adjacent to the entrance to the indoor pool. Facility includes elliptical machine, treadmills, stationary bicycles, free weights and weight machine. A guestroom key is required for access
  • I've heard about the Civil War era redoubts that are surrounded by the Hotel. How can I learn more about them? We are proud of these authentic remnants of the Battle of Williamsburg (May, 1862) and ask that guests do not walk on these historic places. To learn more about redoubts we suggest you see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redoubt. For additional information related to the Battle of Williamsburg we recommend that you visit our lobby to view the displays.

  • How old do I have to be to check in to the hotel as a registered guests?   The minimum age to check in to the Fort Magruder Hotel is 21 years of age.  Any persons in the room under the age of 21, must have an adult present at all times.

Reservations & Cancellations

  • How do I change my current reservation or make a new reservation? To make a new reservation you may use the “Book a Reservation” link on our website or call the hotel directly at 757-221-6908. To revise an existing reservation, please contact the hotel directly at 757-221-6908.
  • Is my I.D./Passport required at check in? Yes. In addition to a valid credit card, we do require a government issued photo ID at the time of check in for all reservations. If your room rate is based on your affiliation with an organization (AAA, State/Federal Government, etc.) you will be required to show proof of affiliation (membership card, etc.) at time of check-in or the Hotel’s prevailing rates will apply.
  • What credit cards are accepted at Fort Magruder? American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Discover Card.
  • May I pay with my debit card? Debit cards are treated the same as credit cards. Your debit card will be authorized for total room and tax, plus $25 per day for incident charges. This action will hold the funds in your checking account until the transaction is processed by your bank within 3 to 5 business days after departure.
  • What is your cancellation/deposit policy? Cancellations must occur. (local Hotel time) 24 hours prior to your arrival Guests who do not cancel 24 hours prior. will be charged the equivalent of one night's room rate plus tax.
  • Can I check into my room earlier than 4 p.m.? If you expect to arrive early in the day and would like immediate access to your room, we recommend booking the room for the prior night to guarantee immediate access. Similarly, for late departures, reserving an additional night will guarantee access to your guest room until you depart. If you choose not to reserve, we will be glad to store your bags.
  • Do you have an early departure fee? Yes. An Early Departure Fee of $50.00 will be applied for departures that are earlier than the original confirmed departure date.

Guest Room & Suite Information

  • Is smoking allowed in the Hotel? In our on-going effort to protect and enhance our indoor air quality and to contribute to the health and well-being of our guests and employees, Fort Magruder Hotel and Conference Center is a smoke-free facility (including “electronic” smoking devices). If smoking takes place in a guest room the registered guest will be charged $250 to cover the extensive cost of restoring guest rooms to a smoke-free condition. We appreciate your cooperation to help ensure that our guests and employees are not subject to second hand smoke.
  • Will your rooms allow rollaway beds/cribs/play pens? Is there a charge? Not all of our rooms can accommodate rollaway beds/cribs/play pens. Rollaway beds are available for a charge of $15 per night plus tax. Cribs and play pens are provided complimentary and are subject to availability. In accommodations where rollaway beds, cribs and play pens are allowed, only one rollaway, crib or playard is allowed. Please advise your need for a rollaway, crib or playard when making your reservation.
  • Are pets allowed? Are there charges? Pets are welcome at The Fort Magruder Hotel and Conference Center. A non-refundable pet fee of $50.00 (for up to a three night stay) will be applied to your guest account.  Any stay greater than three nights, will be assessed an additional non-refundable pet fee of $25 per day and there is a limit of two pets (35 lb. maximum per pet) per room. Guests will receive a pet policy outline upon check-in along with a list of area pet friendly businesses and emergency veterinarians,. and will be accommodated in specific rooms located in close proximity to designated “Pet walk” areas. Pets must be leashed whenever on hotel property outside guest rooms. Pets may be left unattended in room if caged. In accordance with local ordinances pets are not allowed in swimming pool/hot tub or fitness center facilities. Housekeeping services (required by hotel daily) will only be provided when guest is present or when pet is caged. Cleaning fee: No additional fee however hotel reserves the right to apply additional charges in the event of damages or soiled carpets /soft goods. We offer designated “Green Spaces” (which include courtesy bags) for exercising pets. At this time, dogs are the only accepted pets. 
  • Do you have connecting rooms? A limited number of guest accommodations connect. Connecting rooms are on a request basis and cannot be guaranteed.
  • Do you have accessible rooms? Yes, we have accessible rooms. Some of these rooms include modified bath tubs with bars while some include a roll-in shower. Please request accessible accommodations when making your reservation.

  • Can I hold a wedding or retreat or family reunion at Fort Magruder? Yes! The Hotel has been the site of countless special events that take place in one of our ballrooms or outdoor settings.
